I’m founder and CEO of Professional Wiki, where we host and develop MediaWiki, Semantic MediaWiki and Wikibase for organisations, and build NeoWiki. I’ve built open-source software for structured knowledge since 2009, and I’ve created more of Wikibase’s capabilities than anyone else. More about me.

Current work

  • NeoWiki. Open-source software, built on MediaWiki, that makes an organisation’s knowledge governable, queryable and AI-ready. It’s in early access, and you can try the demo.
  • ECHOLOT. NeoWiki is the core system of ECHOLOT, an EU-funded cultural-heritage consortium with 15 partners in 12 countries. Professional Wiki leads the development.
  • Professional Wiki. Managed MediaWiki hosting, Semantic MediaWiki and Wikibase development, and AI for wikis.
  • MUDCon. Three sessions at MUDCon Fall 2026 in Ljubljana, 11–12 November: NeoWiki, AI for wikis, and a comparison of Semantic MediaWiki, Wikibase and NeoWiki for cultural heritage with ECHOLOT partners.

Background

I have been working with MediaWiki, the software behind Wikipedia, since 2009. Since then I have worked for several companies across the globe, including Google and the Wikimedia Foundation. Between 2012 and 2019 I worked for Wikimedia Deutschland as software architect, primarily on the Wikidata project. I was part of the original Wikidata team that started development of the software in 2012 and launched the website later that year. I created over a dozen MediaWiki extensions, contributed to many more and am one of the maintainers of Semantic MediaWiki.

I like getting things done, with software that stays simple and easy to change, and I write about how to get there. Lately I also write about AI and how it changes the way I work. Over the years I’ve given talks at FOSDEM, Wikimania, SMWCon and MUDCon.

In my spare time, I enjoy beach volleyball, board games, and reading.
